Unmask the silence we can do more

I recently lost an amazing friend way too soon. Just days before her passing, she candidly shared the struggles she was facing, including grieving the loss of her father and stress related to the transfer of his property. Because I also lost my father a few years ago, we shared a natural conversation about dealing with grief and managing estate matters—something that is incredibly overwhelming when you are mourning.

She had a tattoo on her arm that represented mental health and lives lost, and I knew she had lost a few friends to suicide. Despite our open conversation, it never crossed my mind that she was struggling herself. I listened to her and offered encouragement, but I constantly think about her and wish there was more I could have done.

Jen Weis, Thank you for creating this space. We met at a Fempire event a few years back, and last year you came to one of our company all-hands meetings to discuss mental health and share your story. Hearing your talk, combined with the recent loss of my dear friend, has profoundly reinforced the importance of the work you do.
